Retirement of Judge James P. Smith
Retirement of Judge James P. Smith
The Honorable James P. Smith retires from the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Georgia after fourteen years of outstanding service to the Court. We expect that a new judge will fill this vacated position soon. When a new judge is appointed, Judge Smith’s existing Macon Division caseload will be transferred to the new judge.
In the interim, Macon Division cases previously assigned to Judge Smith will continue to use the “JPS” judge code. If you have received no notice of case reassignment, and your case was previously assigned to Judge Smith, your case will continue to reflect “JPS.” When the new judge begins, a new judge code will replace “JPS.” Calendar and hearing information for cases previously assigned to Judge Smith will be available on CM/ECF under “Bankruptcy Judge.”
Please direct questions or concerns related to cases previously assigned to Judge Smith to Rhonda Thomas at 478-749-6813 or rhonda_thomas@gamb.uscourts.gov.
